AFA artist, “Balay,” grew up in the San Fernando Valley of California with an eye on the performing arts at an early age. In her early teens she began a career as an actress on stage and in television commercials before eventually settling into music.
By the age of 20, the bona-fide valley girl had developed her voice and her sound with an array of recordings and a talent for writing lyrics. She also had a contract with Geffen Records, originally signed by Ron Fair, noted for the early signings of Fergie, Black Eyed Peas and Christina Aguilera.
Balay’s music has a gritty, alternative electronic pop sound, a la Depeche Mode or Souxsie & the Banshees. She tends to combine various genres of music and fashion, and is particularly comfortable on stage or in front of a camera. She has since left Geffen Records for AFA Music Group, and has developed a loyal following through her MySpace page and exposure to a new audience with AFA Senior VP and producer Tommy Henriksen.
Balay has completed her first album, tentatively titled “Plug Me In,” and will be one of the Company’s first artists to release an album on its new digital music label, slated for release in early 2008. “Telegraphic Messages” will be the first single from the album, which will be available via download directly from the ArtistForArtist Web site.
Balay has shot the music video for “Telegraphic Messages” with acclaimed director, Matt McDermott, who gained national recognition as a director of videos for acts including the BackStreet Boys, Anna Nalick, and Zarina. He is a protégé of noted director, Joseph Kahn, who directed videos for artists including Britney Spears, Mariah Carey and U2. She is also working with a photographer on a portfolio of promotional photos.
